Introduction:

The font enhances the overall design and appearance. It not only improves a picture's visual appeal but also creates the right mood and feelings in the viewer. The name of the masthead should convey the right initial impression and idea about the magazine since the masthead reflects the magazine's principal premise.

We are currently researching the significance of coming up with our own "victorious" magazine name in class as we build our own magazine mastheads.

Magazine's masthead analyze:

Magazine's title is 'Vogue', which translates to 'Style' in French. This connotes that the magazine publishes fashionable and now-going trends adding style to that. It is common for Vogue to put their masthead in Serif font, therefore it adds a traditional feel, also mixing with elegant and classic look. In this particular example, the color palette has moody and calm colors. The masthead is grayish blue color that matches the colors of the whole. The color gray can represent and make people feel misery and gloom, while blue dilutes it with a feeling of healing and calmness.

'Elle' is a French word that translates to 'her' or 'she', referring to focusing on inspiration of women to celebrate fashion and style. Elle as the most magazines uses Serif font for their mastheads to keep traditional feeling and add elegance with classic mood. Color red, in this particular example, represents power that goes along with the idea of subtitles. It might also represent the sacrifice and strength that the main image represents.

My masthead variations:

  • Sans Serif

  • Serif

My personal favorites are: Salma Alfasans; Nugo Sans; Rondal; Vollkorn.

Sans Serif fonts will make my magazine appear more simple and unique because they do not adhere to the "traditional & classic" style. However, Sarif ones will give my magazine a more professional and elegant appearance, adding to its value. Bold typefaces don't really appeal to me since they go against my conception of the word "sweet," which is something light and simple. However, because my initial plan was to offer a variety of fashion looks and styles that varied from one another, I may still experiment with that.
