Blog Post: 2nd Genre Photoshoot

My second magazine genre is Travel! For this practice photoshoot I decided to visit one of the most popular cities among tourists in Florida - Fort Lauderdale. My goal was to capture the most eye-catching places, from outside-restaurants to warm beaches. To convey and express the tourism atmosphere of the city I decided to put myself in the role of a tourist and walk around the city to capture the places that I found interest in. I tried to capture an appropriate angle of the places that are worth visiting or showed unusual architecture for tourists. My further plans for other pictures is to travel even further, perhaps visit a popular tourist place out of Florida! If that is not going to be accessible I will try to show the best places to spend your time with friends, take pictures, have a nice dinner and relax after a day filled with entertainment. I want to show a story of how many places can be visited depending on the tourist's goal of visiting. Either art, culture, food or just to relax on warm sand beaches.

• Challenges were that since a city was popular for tourism, a lot of people were in the background in the pictures. On some of them, these people can tell a story, however for most part these people were too distracting in the whole picture. Another issue was with weather. Sometimes it was very windy and pictures brought that kind of aggression and force to the atmosphere. The goal is to achieve a relaxing mood that will attract people to visit, however winds and rains would take a lot of time to wait for them to pass and make successful pictures.

• My successes are that some pictures would actually represent the mood of tourism and travel. For example, two beach chairs near each other under a huge palm with a beautiful and alluring ocean in the background. That picture could be used on a magazine cover. Another success was that it was easier to see yourself as a tourist and take pictures of the things that caught my attention. As I was walking through the city I could take pictures as it was for my personal blog.

The critique that I got was that my pictures were aesthetically pleasing to the eye. The color coordination and lighting works very well in the photos. However, my restaurant pictures could be improved. I will keep paying attention to the lighting and angles while taking my picture, I feel like I need more practice with that.
